TGS TRADE / PLANNING GUIDE

MT4 vs MT5: choose around your broker infrastructure

Platform selection affects the connected stack. Compare the operating model, existing dependencies and required workflows before committing to an environment.

Start with the platform’s intended use

MetaQuotes presents MetaTrader 4 as a Forex trading platform and MetaTrader 5 as a multi-asset platform supporting Forex, stocks and futures. Those product descriptions are a starting point for planning; the actual instruments and workflows your brokerage offers depend on the selected environment and its connected services.

Separate the client-facing platform choice from the scope of the technology project. Identify the interfaces, configuration and operational work needed for each option. An existing trading environment may also have dependencies that should be reviewed before a change is planned.

DecisionWhat to review
Instrument coverageThe instruments your operating model needs and the provider arrangements available.
Existing integrationsCurrent CRM, feeds, execution connections and their supported interfaces.
Account workflowsHow accounts, groups and permissions are created and maintained.
Release requirementsAffected operations, acceptance cases and the proposed handover.

Review dependencies before choosing a migration path

Inventory the systems that exchange client, account, price and order information with the current platform. Record the owner and interface of each connection. The review should identify which integrations can be retained, which need adaptation and which decisions require input from a selected provider.

Include the operations team in the requirements. They need to reconcile account state, investigate execution events and manage changes after launch. A platform decision is easier to assess when it includes those workflows and the operating responsibilities of the connected systems.

  • List current components and the interfaces they expose.
  • Identify business workflows that must be supported after the change.
  • Agree representative normal and exception scenarios for acceptance.
  • Document dependencies and responsibilities before setting a release date.

Choose a configuration or integration scope

For an existing MT4 environment, the project may focus on configuration and selected connections. For an MT5 launch, begin with the target account and instrument model, then map the client systems, data sources and execution interfaces. Platform availability and permitted arrangements should be confirmed before a commercial launch commitment.

The shared platform-stack overview helps compare the connected components. The dedicated service pages describe the information to provide for each platform and the outcomes to agree before production handover.
